Theological / Devotional

Unclean spirits. Opinion is divided as to the best translation of the first half of this verse. It may be rendered: “For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of those possessed.” Note how Luke, the physician, differentiates the demon-possessed from those with other diseases. Concerning “unclean spirits” see on ch. 5:16; see Additional Note on Mark 1.
