Theological / Devotional

An adversary. Probably either the Assyrian king Shalmaneser, who more than once attacked Israel and besieged Samaria (see 2 Kings 17:3-6 ; 18:9-12), or his successor, Sargon, who claimed he captured the city and its inhabitants (see Vol. II, pp. 62, 85).
