Theological / Devotional

Beds of ivory. Rather, couches inlaid with ivory, upon which the wealthy reclined at meals in their luxury and debauchery. As a simple “herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit” (see ch. 7:14), Amos expresses shock at the sensual living of the upper classes in Samaria.

Of the stall. Calves evidently were put there to be fattened for the tables of these idlers of Israel.
