Commentary on Amos 7:16

Theological / Devotional

Now therefore hear. Conscious of his divine commission, Amos speaks forthwith with holy boldness. Those who are sent of God need not fear what men attempt to do to silence their message.

Drop not thy word. That is, the prophet was supposed to stop prophesying (see Eze. 21:2, 7; Micah 2:6, 11). The LXX reads “raise not a tumult.”
