Theological / Devotional

Paul, an apostle. For the form of the introduction and for the meaning of the terms see on Rom. 1:1; cf. on Acts 1:2. Paul calls himself an apostle because he wishes to emphasize that he is the Lord’s ambassador.

Will of God. See on Eph. 1:1.

Timotheus. Concerning Timothy see on Acts 16:1. Paul includes Timothy in his apostolic greeting in other of his epistles (2 Cor. 1:1; Phil. 1:1; 1 Thess. 1:1; 2 Thess. 1:1; Philemon 1).
