Theological / Devotional

With the beasts. Although the words of the heavenly messenger clearly implied doom of some kind, to ascertain the nature of the judgment was beyond the skill of the magicians. The reason for the king’s expulsion from society is not stated, though probably understood by the king. That the judgment was insanity can be concluded not only from the general remarks of this verse describing his future status but also from the statement that his “understanding returned” (v. 34). The contention of critics that the king was expelled by discontented elements in the government, or as the result of a revolution, is unfounded.
