Theological / Devotional

Moved with choler. Heb. marar, in the form here found, “to be enraged.” Choler is Old English for “anger.” The language of this verse depicts the completeness of the subjection of Persia to Alexander. The power of the empire was completely broken. The country was ravished, its armies cut in pieces and scattered, its cities plundered. The royal city of Persepolis, whose ruins still stand as a monument to its ancient splendor, was destroyed by fire.
