Theological / Devotional

Shut up. The very opposite of what Jehovah wished to do for His people (Deuteronomy 28:12, 23). Compare a similar expression in Leviticus 26:19. The failure of the rains was to be a reminder of sin that must be repented of (1 Kings 8:35).

Perish quickly. Disobedience was to be followed by natural calamities intended to lead the people back to God (Joshua 23:16; Amos 4:6-9).
