A curse. Compare with chapter 28:15-68.

Other gods. See chapter 6:14. Only the God of heaven can bless His people (chapters 7:9; 8:3). The children of Israel were repeatedly warned of the dangers of idolatry (chapters 4:3, 15, 16, 23; 6:4, 14; 7:4, 5, 25; 8:19; 9:12; 10:20; etc.).
