Theological / Devotional

A grove. Heb. ’asherim. The word is used more than 30 times in the OT and is consistently rendered “groves” in the KJV. The word is always used in connection with idols (see on Ex. 34:13). It should be translated “sacred trees” or “wooden poles.” These were dedicated to the pagan goddess Asherah, while the stone pillars were objects of worship dedicated to Baal.
