Thou hearkenedst not. The curses of God were to follow progressively one upon another until Israel was brought to utter ruin. The reason for all this was their disregard of the terms of the covenant they had voluntarily entered into with God. They had taken solemn oath before Him to be loyal to His expressed will. Their utter repudiation of God and His covenant brought about a complete reversal of the purpose of God for them. In proportion to the possible exaltation of Israel before all nations, so would their degradation be.
