Sold them. This verse depicts a complete reversal of their fortunes, due to their having forsaken Jehovah (see Lev. 26:8, 17, 36, 37; Deut. 28:25).

Shut them up. See the same verb, here translated “shut up,” rendered as “delivered” (1 Sam. 24:18), “given up” (Lam. 2:7), “deliver up” (Amos 6:8).
