Theological / Devotional

His ring. Literally, “his signet.” This was probably a ring, for signet rings were known to the Persians, though some think it was a cylinder like that of his father Darius, now in the British Museum. In possession of the royal seal, Hainan had power to issue whatever edicts he desired, for the royal seal would give them full authority. Hainan’s word was thus equal to that of the king, who in effect gave Hainan blanket permission to do what he desired.
