Theological / Devotional

This is the ordinance. Certain additional regulations concerning the Passover were given at Succoth. These were rendered necessary because of the many non-Israelites who had joined the Hebrews, and deal mainly with these “strangers.” Provision was made whereby they might participate in the paschal feast and share its blessings.

No stranger. That is, one of an alien race who wished to retain his status as a foreigner and to remain uncircumcised. Since the Passover was significant as the festival commemorating Israel’s birth as a nation, it would naturally be inappropriate for a foreigner to participate in it.
