Commentary on Exodus 15:8

Theological / Devotional

The blast of thy nostrils. A highly poetic description of the east wind, which had in part been responsible for the dividing of the waters. Waxing bolder in his imagery, Moses represents the floods as “standing in a heap” on either side, and the depths as “congealed.”

Congealed. Literally, “contracted,” “drawn together,” or “curdled.” Here used poetically, this word should not be construed as meaning that the waters actually froze (see PP 287).
