Theological / Devotional

Stealeth a man. To steal, or kidnap, men to make them slaves, was an early and widespread crime (see Gen. 37:25—28). Those stolen were usually foreigners. To steal them was not considered a legal offense. If, however, the kidnapped person was a fellow countryman, punishment was severe (Deut. 24:7).
