Theological / Devotional

Push a manservant. That is, “gore a manservant.” Even then the ox was to be killed, to further strengthen the concept of the sanctity of human life. Instead of a varying “ransom,” or fine, the average price of a slave, 30 shekels of silver, was in all cases to be paid to the slave’s master in compensation for his loss. Thirty shekels of silver would be equivalent to approximately $8.75 today (see on Gen. 20:16).
