Theological / Devotional

I love my master. Inasmuch as Hebrew slavery was mild and sympathetic in nature (Lev. 25:39, 40, 43), it was not unusual for affection to spring up between the owner and the slave. Even among pagans there were such instances. Love might even make the conditions of servitude seem preferable to freedom. The cords of affection bind more closely than any other bonds, but they do not confine or fetter.
