Commentary on Exodus 29:13

Theological / Devotional

All the fat. Fat was generally regarded as the best part of the offering, and therefore most acceptable to God (see on Lev. 3:3, 5). This was probably due in part to the fact that it burned with a bright flame and helped to consume the rest of the offering.

The caul. An “appendage” (RSV). This is the small omentum, a membrane which covers the upper part of the liver and attaches it to the stomach.
