Theological / Devotional

Break wedlock. Under ancient Jewish law the penalty for murder, adultery, and sacrificing to Molech was death (Exodus 21:12; Leviticus 20:1-5, 10). Capital punishment was by stoning (see Leviticus 20:2; cf. John 8:5). The charge of blood may here extend beyond infanticide in connection with the sacrifices to Molech to include other crimes, assassinations, and judicial murders.
