Theological / Devotional

Thy reproach. The pronoun is not in the Hebrew. Read simply, “the reproach.”

Syria. A number of manuscripts and the Syriac read “Edom.” The two names are very similar in the Hebrew script (see on 2 Samuel 8:12). The passage may refer to Judah’s exultation at the misfortunes of Syria or Edom.
