Theological / Devotional

Shalt take thine inheritance. The Hebrew word translated by this phrase, chalal, means “to profane,” and is thus translated in ch. 7:24. The ancient versions have the verb in the first person, yielding the translation, “I shall be defiled through you in the sight of the heathen” (see chs. 20:9; 36:20).
