Lay bands. The nature of these bands is not disclosed, but the symbolism is apparent. The restraint symbolized the unrelenting character of the predicted events. Nothing that the people could do, no matter how diligently pursued, would be able to ward off the devastation of Jerusalem and the captivity of the remnant.
