With sackcloth. In the East a common sign of sorrow, humiliation, and misery. The horror sprang from the dreadful apprehension of growing evils, the shame from disappointments, conscious guilt, and disillusionment.

Baldness. Baldness was often self-inflicted as a token of great mourning (see Isa. 15:2; Jer. 7:29; 48:37; Amos 8:10).
