Theological / Devotional

Children of the province. While the city of Babylon was one of the capitals of the Persian Empire, and its land a satrapy under the administration of a satrap, Judah was a province. The use of this expression is evidence of the familiarity of the writer with the political situation of that time.

Every one unto his city. Upon their return the exiles not only settled in Jerusalem but also in neighboring towns and villages, such as Jericho, Tekoa, Gibeon, Mizpah, and a number of others.
