Galatians 4:28

Children of promise. See on v. 23. Paul here refers to Christians, whose privilege it is to enter into all the promises originally made to Abraham and his descendants (see Vol. IV, pp. 35). The Jews failed to enter in because of unbelief (Heb. 3:19 to 4:2), and it remained for the chosen people of all nations to enter into the “rest” ordained by God for all who “come boldly unto the throne of grace” (see on Heb. 4:9, 16). The Galatians had believed and were rejoicing in the great truth of righteousness by faith until the false teachers from Jerusalem had persuaded them to attempt to secure it by works. But although they were in the process of turning to “another gospel” (Gal. 1:6, 7), Paul had not given up hope of their return to the pathway of faith.
