Theological / Devotional

Bera king of Sodom. There is less reason to expect to find the names of the city kings of the Jordan valley in non-Biblical documents than those of the great nations of the time. The four names given are, however, Palestinian and can be explained as such. In Arabic, Bera would mean “victor”; Birsha, “long man”; Shinab, “[the moon-god] Sin is father”; and Shemeber, “mighty of fame.”
