Theological / Devotional

Sarah shall her name be. This is the first time Abraham’s wife Sarai was mentioned by name in any divine communication with him. No great difference exists between the two names Sarai and Sarah. Sarai, meaning “my princess,” became simply Sarah, “a princess.” Formerly she had been Abraham’s princess, but henceforth she was to be recognized as the princess and progenitor of an entire nation. She would belong to her descendants as well as to Abraham.
