Theological / Devotional

God planted a garden. The location of Eden is unknown. The Flood so altered the original physical features of the earth as to make present identification of former localities impossible. We commonly refer to this garden as “Paradise,” a word of Persian origin meaning “park.” The Hebrew word for paradise, pardes, occurs a few times in the OT (Neh. 2:8; Eccl. 2:5; S. of Sol. 4:13), but in reference to trees rather than as a name for the Garden in Eden. The word “paradise,” Greek paradeisos, was originally applied to the home of our first parents by the translators of the LXX.
