Theological / Devotional

Be thou the mother. Rebekah’s family invoked upon her the blessings promised by God. A numerous posterity is still considered by Orientals to be the greatest of blessings, and was the main object of their wish for her. For the expressed desire that her seed should possess the gate of their enemies, see on Genesis 22:17.
