Theological / Devotional

The sons of Judah. On the meaning of the names of Pharez and Zarah see on ch. 38:29, 30. Er and Onan, who died in the land of Canaan, are not counted, but Pharez already had two sons, Hezron, meaning “enclosure” (see v. 9), and Hamul, “one who has received mercy.”
