Genesis 49:23

The archers. From the simile of the fruit tree Jacob passed next to one of war, describing the victory of the tribe of Joseph over all its foes. This is an illustration of the prophetic present, which speaks of future events as already in process of fulfillment. The words are not to be referred to any warlike deeds of Joseph in Egypt, but probably hint, in terms not directly offensive to his brothers but understood by all of them, to the persecution he had suffered at their hands as well as during his years of slavery and imprisonment.
