Methuselah. Enoch’s short earthly life of only 365 years was followed by that of his son Methuselah, who lived for 969 years, to within the year of the Flood. The meaning of his name is uncertain. Commentators have explained it variously as “man of military weapons,” “man of sending forth,” or “man of growth.” The meaning of the name of his son Lamech is even more obscure.
