Theological / Devotional

Profiteth. The prophet ironically inquires as to what benefit the Chaldeans derive from their trust in their gods (see Isa. 44:9, 10; Jer. 2:11). Again and again in the OT the folly of putting one’s trust in “dumb idols” is stressed (see Ps. 115:4-8; Jer. 10:1-5; etc.).
