By faith. See on verses 1, 3.

Moses. For the record of the incident referred to see Exodus 2:1-10. During Moses’ infancy it was the faith of his parents that triumphed over “the king’s commandment.” It was faith in a higher destiny than servitude in Egypt that led Amram and Jochebed to act in contravention of the royal decree. As Moses reached maturity he exhibited the same kind of faith on his own behalf, as the writer of Hebrews goes on to relate (see Hebrews 11:24-29).
