Theological / Devotional

I beseech. The earnestness with which the writer appeals to his readers to pray for his release from circumstances that prevented fellowship with them is touching indeed and reflects his personal faith in the power of prayer.

The rather. Or, “the more earnestly” (RSV).

Restored to you. Verse 23 suggests that Timothy was in prison at the time and seems to imply that the writer of Hebrews was at liberty. Other circumstances such as illness or the pressure of missionary duties may have prevented Paul’s return to his readers.
