Commentary on Hebrews 9:18

Theological / Devotional

First testament. Here, probably more accurately, “first covenant” (see on v. 16), for the author is speaking of the covenant made with Israel at Sinai (see on Hebrews 8:7).

Dedicated. Greek egkainizo, “to inaugurate,” “to dedicate.” The word occurs in the NT only here and in Hebrews 10:20, where the author is speaking of a new and living way being inaugurated.
