Theological / Devotional

They called. Probably a reference to the various prophets and other messengers whom God employed to make known His will to the people. They went from them. Refusing to acknowledge the call of God, Israel turned to idolatry, especially to Baalim, the various representations of the god Baal (see ch. 2:17).
