Theological / Devotional

Into the land of Egypt. Having been tributary to Assyria since the time of Menahem (2 Kings 15:17-20), Israel revolted and sought help from Egypt (2 Kings 17:1—4). However, no help would be permitted to come from Egypt; Israel would be compelled to submit to the yoke of Assyria. The Assyrian bondage would be a chastisement upon them for their unrepented sins.
