Jezreel. In ch. 1:4 Hosea employs this word to mean “scatter,” in an evil sense (see comments there). Here he uses the word to mean “scattering” in the good sense of sowing seed. Jezreel becomes a name that joins the recollection of God’s past punishment with the assurance of His future mercy.
