Theological / Devotional

Hewed them. The Hebrew refers to the hewing of stones for building purposes, an apt symbol of the fashioning of the human soul by the heavenly Sculptor into the “similitude of God” (James 3:9).

Thy judgments. The LXX and the Syriac versions read, “My judgment.” Whichever reading is adopted, the reference is clearly an allusion to divine chastisement.
