Samaria and her idols. The Assyrians thought of the gods of other nations as being similar to their own gods. To them the God of Jerusalem was basically no different from the god of any other city. As the gods of Samaria had failed to save it, so the God of Jerusalem would not be able to save it from Assyrian might.
