Commentary on Isaiah 19:11

Theological / Devotional

The princes of Zoan. Zoan was called Tanis by the Greeks. The city was founded seven years after Hebron (Num. 13:22). It was situated in the Delta, on one of the eastern branches of the Nile. This city became the capital of Ramses II during the 13th century B.C. A century after the time of Isaiah, the prophet Ezekiel pronounced a severe judgment upon the city (Eze. 30:14).
