Who gave Jacob? God had permitted the Assyrian invasion (see on chs. 8:7, 8; 10:5, 6). By their stubborn refusal to obey, the people of Judah brought suffering upon themselves. When they refused to serve the Lord He withdrew His protecting hand from them and permitted the enemy to come in and devastate their land.
