Theological / Devotional

They shall roar. The prophet here turns to another figure of speech, comparing the approach of the Assyrians to the waters of a flood that sweeps all before it and leaves desolation and ruin in its wake (see ch. 8:7, 8).

Behold darkness and sorrow. The figurative roaring of the sea is accompanied by the darkness and terror of the tempest.
