Theological / Devotional

Where are thy gods? Compare Deut. 32:37, 38; see on Judges 10:14. The challenge was made, not to mock the inhabitants of Judah, but to deepen in them the consciousness of their terrible apostasy and to cause them to recognize the real source of help and hope (see Isa. 43:11, 25 ; 51:12).

Let them arise. An insinuation of the lifelessness and impotency of these gods (see Jer. 10:15; Isa. 46:7).

Number of thy cities. Every city had its tutelary god (see ch. 11:13).
