Theological / Devotional

The mounts. That is, the towers or banks that were used in siege operations (see on ch. 6:6). As predicted by Jeremiah, the Babylonians were even then besieging Jerusalem. The towering assault works were visible to the inhabitants of the doomed city. It was impossible for the Israelites to escape the sufferings “of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence.”
