Theological / Devotional

Daughter of Zion. The name of the city or the inhabitants of Jerusalem in poetic personification (see Isa. 1:8).

Bewaileth herself. Literally, “gaspeth for breath.”

Spreadeth her hands. An expression denoting distress and a cry for help (Lam. 1:17).
