Theological / Devotional

Heshbon. See on v. 2.

Sihon. Compare Num. 21:28. Sihon, king of the Amorites, had taken from Moab the territory north of the river Amon which was occupied by Reuben (see on Judges 11:19) and later reconquered by Moab (see on 2 Kings 3:5; see also Vol. II, pp. 864, 865). That area is here referred to by Sihon’s name.

Tumultuous ones. Literally, “sons of tumult.” A reference to the Moabites (see Amos 2:2).
