Theological / Devotional

Dragons. Heb. tartnim, “howling ones,” probably jackals. These animals are repeatedly referred to in Scripture in connection with desolate cities (see Isa. 13:22; Jer. 9:11; 10:22; 51:37). The translation “dragons” seems to have arisen through confusing tannim with tannin, “a serpent” (Ex. 7:9, 12), or “dragon” (Isa. 27:1 ; 51:9; etc.).

A desolation for ever. The absence of any trace of this Hazor (see on v. 28) bears out the truth of this prediction.
